I've got it figured out, and now I'm just going to add a Settings option to enable/disable it. I'll post the code in a new discussion on this plugin in case anyone's interested. Apologies for the 'stickies' wording in the screencap (although it will say 'Announcements' if you haven't bastardized your forum in locale.php like I have).
