Updating to 2.1.8 changed the appearance of my forum

and this is what another of my forums looks like after updating

They used to (except for the colors and banner photo) look the same.
What happened and how can I fix it?

Looks like those two sites are using different themes, or are they not?

The layout of the master template has changed:

I guess the style.css has also changed. You have based your custom theme on the default theme and so, when the default theme changes, your custom theme might be broken.

I don't know if and how you can use the old template. You can try to copy the old default.master.php into /themes/defaultsmarty/views and see if that is enough...

I believe it was 2.1.6 but not sure because it's not easy to determine which version I have

It does appear that way, but I did not choose to change the theme

It seems the Dark Mist theme does not work correctly with 2.1.8

I've tried setting the theme to +Baseline, uploading Dark Mist again and activating Dark Mist (on a couple of my forums) with the same results: Dark Mist seems to not work correctly in 2.1.8

Try one of my themes , they are dark and all work with 2.1

If the theme you used before was DarkMist , then my themes use the same scheme and will be easy to modify to how you had it before I think.

Try DarkMetal theme, it also has a mobile version.

@vrijvlinder I downloaded the DarkMetal and uploaded it to my themes folder but it does not show as a choice on my dashboard

Are you sure ? It works for me. I just downloaded and installed it.

Did you extract it from the zip before upload ? Try another theme and see if the same happens.
