Please help with emails just a simple question

Ok so this is a little off topic but I didnt know where to post it. So my domain is hosted with godaddy, and I didnt buy an email account with them. will an email still work if i set it up the email account with my hosting company other than godaddy? please help this is for the email verification of my vanilla forums site

you can try 3rd party service like Mandrill or Sendgrid
