Vanilla Cork'd

After seeing Vanilla Mint, it got me inspired, and as a result I have decided to make my very first Vanilla style! Im basing it on a service called Cork'd (www.corkd.com)

Theres still quite a lot of work to do on it, but I think its getting there! Critics are welcome!

    Nice, I'd email Dan at simplebits.com and run it by him (he did the design for cork'd) as a courtesy and just to make him aware, especially if you will be consistent with the cork'd look.

    I agree, it does look like a great style, but that's mostly due to Dan's fantastic original design. Permission would have to be given.

    I'd think you'd want do that too ... and more then just out of courtesy....

    Sometimes I don't get "people"

    There's a multipage thread just a few days ago calling for people to grab pitchforks and torches and go lynch some people for deploying vanilla installs without crediting mark... but jacking a whole site's design and using it for a theme because you think it looks cool is just fine if not encouraged by some?

    But only if given permission from the creator. If he just copied it without asking or if he was refused when he did ask, then I'd quite happily go and get my pitchfork.

    If Dan says yes, then I don't see what the problem would be.

    Its not just this particular case I'm ranting about.. but as I said.. i'd suggest mailing him for permission, rather then just a "heads up" out of a desire to be courteous

    (or probably it would more appropriately permission would probably come from cork'd directly.. not a designer who happened to do the work.. which happens to probably be him too but not sure the structure there is)

    @placenamehere: No need to get on your high horse. How do you know he hasn't got permission already? Or that he's fully crediting Cork'd? No one's encouraging him to pirate, just commenting on his port.

    This is nice... but I wish people would stop porting other styles and do something from scratch! (in an ideal world of course, i know everyone's busy :-) PS. You missed out the wee flourishes in the horizontal dividers

    Woah! How many people need to tell me the same thing! Guys, just because I didn't tell you or just because you can't see anything linking back to him don't go and assume that I won't be putting credit to him!
    To be honest I hadn't thought of contacting him.. but thats only because I only started work on it today! Im obviously going to contact him and put a lot of credit! (ie. Corkd Ported by Jake etc)
    I have been in contact with Dan before and im sure he will have no problem with me doing it... I mean it advertise's corkd (as we have already seen!)

    @placenamehere: Dan didn't just design Cork'd he and the other Dan (hivelogic) created it together, either one of those will be fine to contact.

    Apart from that thanks for the better comments! @3stripe: Im working on another style (well theme) which will be my own design, and no one elses!

    Right im off to work on a bit more! (free time is great! (I was tempted to use the word swell then) )

    Folks, Im going to leave it for now, just got an email back from Dan, he's asked if I could leave it for a bit, until Cork'd gets a little more widely known! Hey never mind! I'll start work on a style of my own then!

    Awww, that's a huge shame :(

    Especially since he could of actually just done a Vanilla install on his own site with a theme made for him! \o/

    Until it gets better known? I had never heard of it until you started doing this theme. I thought it would be good advertisement. Oh well.

    Mark I know, I was rather confused by that, I mean he even said over at Simplebits how massive it had grown!? Perhaps it was a polite way of saying bugger off!
