It is the sendpm plugin. Deactivate it and try again.

I see that on vanila must use carefully plugins ...
When you
1.read the discussions that are tied to the plugin and
2. test what you plan to do on an offline copy of your forum
you're save.
I admit: that's boring, but trying to be save is almost always boring, isn't it?
