Considering Vanilla, feedback please!
Hey everyone, I recently went to a forum running on vanilla and liked what I saw. I am looking to make a website for my gaming clan. We have been using phpBB for several years now. I have an index page with a shoutbox, news articles that are actually posts from one of the forum categories (recent topics), who is online. This is a basic php page in the root of the phpBB install. I would need to be able to make this page on our new site, similar to like a CMS front page with blocks, but fairly simple with those elements I mentioned.
Secondly, I need to make a form page where questions are answered by someone wanting to join our clan, that creates a new discussion in a private section of the forums for current members to discuss the application.
Are these things that can be done fairly simply with Vanilla? I have a lot of experience with phpBB, some basic knowledge of php and js.
Also, avatars seem to look very low quality/resolution, is that a setting that can be changed to improve this? Thanks for your input!

Yes to all your questions...you should install a test forum and see if you like it...

Yeah this is the best Idea and if you know phpBB, Vanilla is quite simple in comparison (but powerful in its way). Here we are all satan's disciples .
Thanks. I have a test forum installed now, just need to figure all this out.
I only had basic knowledge of php when I started toying with Vanilla - and I'd say I have a better understanding now thanks to Vanilla. I'm still not a skilled programmer, but I can write plugins for Vanilla.
You'll be excited how easy (and clean) it is to extend Vanilla.
