Is there any plan to add this plugin to the 2.1 branch?

I did try copying the plugin from the master to the my local 2.1 branch, but then the login page becomes mostly blank.
With 2.2 beta around the corner I don't think so.
But search this forum, there are multiple thread with solutions to make it work with 2.1:
