I thought that I had seen that I could hide discussions from visitors who were not logged in. But I can't find it now.
Did I dream it? I need basically everything to be invisible until visitors are logged in.

As soon as I ask, I find it!
Dashboard -> Users -> Roles & Permissions -> Role -> Guest
which is exactly where it should be...
Try adding
$Configuration['Garden']['PrivateCommunity'] = true;
Thanks, @R_J, that works to a certain extent.
I am trying to set up jsconnect, and the login button flashes on the right, after the text "Or you can..." - then is set to hidden. It shows up in the source, but not in the generated source, so I assume that JS is changing it somewhere - or I have a setting wrong somewhere
