Issue: Unicode emoji mangled by Vanilla JS

Vanilla 2.2 claims to have full utf8mb4 support - i.e. it supports the new emoji unicode characters. But there is still a JS issue:
When I post the following comment "

Edit: It seems this forum here doesn't seem to be utf8mb4 ready yet :silenced: - I will try to reword the above paragraph without using any multibyte utf-8...

The issue appears when posting any unicode emoji e.g. from http://apps.timwhitlock.info/emoji/tables/unicode. Unless one performs a full page reload, the unicode emoji isn't rendered correctly.
