Starting a new discussion while viewing all categories

When you create a discussion browsing a category, the selector defaults to that category. Great. But, when you are browsing all categories and start a new discussion, the selector defaults to the first category. Since there is very little to differentiate between browsing all categories, and a specific one, I sometimes forget to change the selector to the category I want. Wouldn't it be a good idea to create an invalid 'Select a Category' item in the list that would force users to select a category? Thanks, Travis

do you know that you can edit the first post in a discussion and move it to another category?
i know it's sort of away from the point, but many people seem to miss this.

Yes, i'm aware they can be edited. But why not totally eliminate the cause of the problem? I guess after enough times of posting into the wrong category users would remember, but i'm all about making things as user-friendly as possible.

Yes, it's not exactly a difficult addition, and is good for usability.

I was hoping Mark would chime in on this, as it seems like more of a Vanilla core thing than an extension. Maybe something to include in an upcomming minor release?

Personally, I disagree with this. I don't believe it is right (user friendly?) to nag the user with a 'You must select a category' message.

I never browse categories when reading and posting, so this isn't even a problem for me.
