Subscription / Paypal addon?

edited February 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hello.

Anyone ever thinking of a forum subscriber addon?

Me and some others who got together by playing online games used to post at a phpBB forum - it was pretty much an exclusive one. That said, the previous owner got married and forgot all about it :( (no joke).

I was wondering if anyone thought of say a subscriber addon. The reason I bring this up is because I was thinking of bringing it back, but couldn't really afford to pay for hosting indefinitely so it would be cool if there was a way to track people who donated like say a $1 through paypal to help keep it running.

When the forum needed money, toggle it to bring attention, and when the funds are fine, turn it off.

What do you think?

  • that sounds like a great idea to me, Jeff. I would love such an extension.
  • There's the Notify extension. Maybe it could be used to build the Subscriber addon you're thinking about.

ask mark how he tracked donations for the macbook. i think that was tied to usernames.
  • I think that was a manual thing, ithcy.
  • I intend to build a paypal subscription feature into Vanilla this week. If anyone would like to help me or is interested in how I do it, please let me know.
  • I'll be sure ready to listen :)
  • Okay, scrapped this plan and have gone with the SMF (Simple Machines Forum) system instead, which has a subscription module in beta.
  • Anybody ot there with an idea how to implement a paypal subscription?
