Crop Thumbnails

So has cropping thumbs been disabled? There is a mention of a CropThumbnails variable in the source, but it looks like it isn't being used and the Filebrowser docs say flat out that thumbs retain their aspect ratio, rather than even entertaining the possibility of cropping. Needless to say, I would dig being able to crop the thumbs so that they are all similarly proportioned. Any thought? Rad.
