Is there anyone who is NOT using Vanilla as a forum?

I'm not done setting mine up, but I'm actually using it as a comment board for articles on my site. I had been looking for something like this forever! It's better than using the comment feature that comes with most scripts, IMO.

I've seen a few different modications of Vanilla. I've seen it used as a blog, a commenting tool for just about anything, and most recently I've been planning an extension that turns it into a bug tracking tool, and another that turns it into a customer support ticketing system.
  • There are billions of people not using Vanilla as a forum.

Most of them aren't using Vanilla at all, though.
  • That's great. It seems like one could do so many things with it. It also makes it easier with the way the links are set up. What I mean is most forums have links like viewforum.php=1/viewtopic.php=1 or something along those lines. I like that Vanilla doesn't. That's a small thing that makes it even better.

Most satellite hack sites use Vbulletin I use this for my High School Alumni to get everything together and everyone loves it. Thanks Mark
  • My mum doesn't and never has used Vanilla. Ever.

    ahahahaha
  • does anyone eFed (as in, fantasy wrestling)? i have only seen it work properly on phpbb-style forums. i'm wondering if there is a way to cross it over, but still keep it in the same, organized structure that a forum-based fed has. especially with categories devoted to out of character discussions, then the roleplay area, and then any other in-character specific areas. i forsee a lot of discussions getting pushed off to the 2nd and 3rd page, would could confuse a lot of "fedders." anyone try this yet?
  • I use it as a family meeting place and picture post to keep friends and family updated with news of my daughter, who just so happens to be two days younger than Vanilla 1.

It also serves as a quasi blog on another domain, and will soon host a community on a third domain of mine.

the great thing about Vanilla is that one's forum always looks busy. Unlike when I used other forums scripts in the past - where you set up a few categories across the board, and it was very obvious that most categories got no posts......the board looked VERY empty. but with vanilla, you see all the latest posts on the main page, regardless of what category they have been posted under...thus the forum looks much busier and is more likely to attract new posters and folks to come back. I LOVE vanilla............and i can't figure why other forum makers haven't used such a format in their scripts.
  • strawberries are you drunk or is it just me?
  • do I appear drunk. mini? lol Well it IS Friday night.
  • You did until you edited your post so that you put the letters onto the right words :P
  • LOL Oh that is just me. I type way too fast (and craply) and hit SEND without checking. And then i sometimes look up and think 'oh frig'. And i always make the same mistakes.

Yep. And the front looks more like a list of articles or blog entries.

"I use vB as well" - in Australia, VB is a beer - Victoria Bitter. Might be better than the vB you're using, though it doesn't have a Vanilla flavour!

I'm interested in your comment "I'm actually using it as a comment board for articles on my site". I'd like to see it - can you post the URL please, or is it a closed forum?
  • Ha, I thought you were talking about the board version!
  • i use vanilla also als blog and to publish some works. it's great :) i realized the in germany so called "impressum" page (don't know how to translate, google says "imprint"), it is a link to my accounts page. it was easy to add the needed information through the little but nice feature of custom information. i wanted to do an browser game on top of phpBB, but was frightended about this high amount of things i had to change and the ugly table design. i am so glad that i found vanilla, this will make much things easier :)
  • Mark -- I for one would be EXTREMELY interested in seeing what you do as far as a customer support ticketing system. I have searched far and wide for a system that does... support tickets... just support tickets.. not 19853928502 other things.. simple.. easy to use... just plain vanilla :P.
