Link directly to a discussion from external website?

edited February 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Is this possible?

If so, I assume Vanilla will pass logged-in members through while allowing logged-out members or anonymous guests to sign-in/register in their comment ... ?

  • what's wrong with http://lussumo.com/community/discussion/3102/link-directly-to-a-discussion-from-external-website/ ?
  • Sheesh. Idiot alert (me). Rule one when asking questions: try it yourself first. Kind thanks, Minisweeper.
  • Isn't that what the permalink is for also?
  • permalink links to comments, yes.
  • A question: I get problems when I link externally (eg in an email) to a particular discussion if that's a discussion which requires members to be logged in. A non-logged in visitor will get a "discussion not found" error message. I have login and password fields on every page, but if the visitor logs in from the error page he is directed to the root discussions page, not the one I linked to. I want to achieve: 1. Non-logged in visitor presses link to discussion which requires log-in 2. Non-logged in visitor gets message "login required", along with login-boxes. (This should preferably not clash with the login box I already have!) 3. Visitor loggs in and is directly taken to the discussion which link they originally pressed. Any thoughts on how to achieve this?

    Thomas:

I am working on a new permalink, will see if I can incorporate that custom login message.
  • Did you try playing with the standard ReturnURL request parameter of the login (people.php) page?
  • @Wallphone: that would be fab!
