Make Discussion Links Open in Own Window

Vanilla automatically modifies the links in discussions and comments (that users add) to add target="_blank" to the anchor tags which forces all links to open in a new page.
How do I get Vanilla to stop doing that?
I have an embedded forum and I would prefer all links open in the parent window (target="_parent") but this behavior by Vanilla won't allow me. I have tried adding to the page head using a Pocket, but the links are still opening in a new window.
