Improve image support in mobile web version, how?

We've switched to 2.2 yesterday and quite happy with it, especially the new editor - just like the one here - which we're using in wysiwyg mode right now. In the desktop version it's very easy to embed images in your post. But in the mobile version (default theme with minor layout tweaks) I can upload but I cannot embed in the post. It's only showed as attachment, see example.
- Is there a way you can embed an uploaded image when using mobile web version?
- Anyone using a technique to shrink uploaded images (both kb's and pixel dimensions, e.g. not to upload heavy fullsize mobile 12MP pix)
So far we've used Tapatalk (which does the shrinking) but they've stopped working after the 2.2 upgrade and also they drop Vanilla support (no formal announcement, though), so don't have to search for a fix there ...
