Strange behaviour in Dashboard with users

This is using Vanilla 2.2
I had an issue with the Dashboard not showing a complete list of users when it was selected.
If I entered a search term and looked then users were displayed.
As part of sorting out another issue on the forum I noticed that there 21,553 users with the name "[Deleted User]" in the table so I decided to remove these.
As soon as I had removed them then the users part of the dashboard behaved as I'd expect; you go in and a complete list of users would appear.
My thoughts are that either the total number of users in the table "broke" an array somewhere possibly (in total there were 22,800 records in there) or the vast number of [Deleted Users] confused it
