Hello folks,
Apologies if this is a very basic, rudimentary question. However, I have a java application (HTML5 and Spring MVC) and would like to integrate vanilla forums into this. Is there a step by step guide that will help me achieve this?
Any help is appreciated, since I have a tight deadline and need to come up with a prototype of the application over the weekend.

Sounds like you want to embed the forum. Go to your Dashboard>Forum>Embed Forum and enable embedding. Then use the provided universal code inside your project:
