Are Your Vanilla Notifications now going to the Spam/Junk folder more often than in the past?

Over the past month or so, I've received a spate of emails from Applicants who never get their emails approved. I also noticed that I'm never getting notifications from my site. I checked my spam/junk folder and VOILA - tons of email notifications that I never received. I even set up a test user to confirm: no, I did not get the notification in my inbox, it went to spam. Is this Google/other-email-providers getting stricter, and if so, is there anything we can do to combat this problem?
