Nested Category displayed on the Frontpage as own Category

Hi there,
i wanted to sorgt my forum a bit.
So i created some categorys and sub-categorys.
But this doesnt make sense if the sub-categorys are displayed as own categorys.
Is this a theme-related issue? (using vanilla-bootstrap)
How - if possible, can i "fix" this? Regards
