Automatic or AJAX way to remove the "new posts" number?

edited August 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hi. This is a bit nitpicky (admittedly), but I'm curious if there's some modification that could be made to Vanilla that allows it remove the "number of new posts" "number" in the sidebar when you click on the discussion. Right now it only does that once you've clicked on it and then went ahead and clicked on ANOTHER discussion. For instance, when you see a previously viewed discussion that now has "new posts" since last login, you go and click on it and it opens...but it still shows the EXACT discussion you are viewing as having "new posts" in the sidebar...WHILE you are viewing it! Seems un-intuitive. I tend to open up all the different things I want to read in new tabs, and I've noticed that it doesn't update which ones still have "new posts" until you click on that discusssion and then from that exact open window click another link (like discussions, or another thread)... It'd be neat if Vanilla could tell on its own to "unlist" a discussion as having "new posts" after it's been opened in a window, or perhaps after it's been opened for "x amount of time"... Does anyone know what I mean?

    Yep, and agree.
Not able to do it, yet…
  • Sounds like a bug to me.
  • bq. Sounds like a bug to me. It is, I think. It's somewhat annoying. It goes away if you visit any other page first.
  • Probably the best way to tackle this is to have the extension check to see if the current page is the one it is linking to--and then clear out the number. Could even unlink the hyperlink to follow the mantra that a page should never link to itself.
