I found a great resource for icons which are free and also the web site has a @font-face generator which will then give you css code you need .

I suppose you need to Credit them on your forum if you haven't bought a subscription.

So would this mean you have to clearly state you are using these icon packs in your footer somewhere.

I don't mind giving the author credit, all those icon packs are made by third parties and licensed to this website to distribute .

One can also create icon packs and put them up , something I found very enticing ……

not a problem. but it might be if you don't credit them somewhere on your site so others can see it. correct?

You can put a hidden link back or an little icon or logo somewhere pointing to the site. Attribution can be inside the css file or theme..
