you put [math] and [/math] around anything you want converted. similar to the way spoilers are used opening and closing bracketed words.
it is like html tags that open and close with a / on the close but it uses brackets [ like markdown instead of angle brackets <
then you enter the formula you want. Latex is a system for high-quality typesetting. It is most often used for medium-to-large technical or scientific documents but it can be used for almost any form of publishing.
The plugin uses MathJax site - so you can use Latex commands and mathjax site converts it.

e.g. you can copy and paste these examples to a comment or discussion
and see that it converts to this
