Show permissions at top of discussion

edited August 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hey! The users in my forum are finding it hard to know what they can post, and where. The reason is that some things we discuss should not be viable by others. Until the day Vanilla gets a system for more fine-tuned permissions, this means we have quite a lot of different categories (to give permissions to various constellations of members). Would it hard to make an extension which shows which groups can read the discussion as a little info-field at the top of each discussion? Better still, this could be hidden altogether in the cases where a discussion is viewable to everyone but displayed when there are 'restrictions' in place. What do you guys think?

That is definitely do-able as an extension. Quite easily, actually. You'd use the same method as the banner extension described in the documentation - only add it to a different part of the page. All you need to do after that is query all of the roles and loop through each one seeing it if has permission to view the current discussion - adding it to the list if it does.
