I download v2.2.1 to try on localhost. I got the installation through and got to dashboard. I was setting things up and suddenly the whole thing collapsed saying " Something has gone wrong ". While I was setting things through dashboard, I tried " Visit site " button. There was nothing but a blank page. Now nothing works. localhost/vanilla gives a blank page. What can I do ?

have you read the release notes, installation readme, or the documentation on troubleshooting?
These four links should be the first things to read and understand before installing. Can save you lots of time and questions.

I am sorry, but what's wrong. I use LAMP on my PC and all other software works fine on it. So, I thought there is nothing hugely different in Vanilla.
Update :
php -v shows PHP7 for me.
PHP7 is not compatible. Use php5.4 for Vanilla

If I may, how can I choose between 5.4 and 7. I am not even sure if my PC has it.
PS : I use Ubuntu

Thanks. I am using 16.04 which is the latest version of Ubuntu. Will it work on 16.04 ?
You need to look at Ubuntu support forums for this. I would assume that you can download and install any php version you need and then using that version per prescription depending on the software you are using .

I think many people new to this are made to believe that they must always use the latest version of everything they install having to do with software , operating systems and such. They might be unaware that the applications they want to use, actually use older versions of certain computer coding languages and still work.
