Deleting a post

  • Not having a built in delete method is odd when its what you are used too having at your disposal as a forum admin. The forum I operate has many posts that are irrelevant after 6 months. However, they could prove to be useful to have around so I'm giving Vanilla a try. If delete is something you need as a core function then Vanilla is not for you. Its as simple as that. If you really want to use Vanilla then you will have to use an extension to get the results you are looking for. Arguing about whether or not it should already do this is pointless. It doesn't and most likely will never have a built in delete method.
  • -- Thank you again Nathan. I didn't see that extension when I went through the list. I will give that a go, I hope it fixes this sticking point. Other than this one thing, I really like this script. It's also, among other things, very easy to template, which is certainly unusual. -- You're welcome.
  • Goodnight, and I certainly hope you never attempt to tell your host provider that looking at what you store on the space you lease from them is illegal.

goodnight, and i hope nobody ever hosts a blog on your ISP, because if they ever get comment-spammed, their contract could be terminated! right? and you agree with that policy, right?
  • Nathan, it works fine. I think I expected to find something titled "post delete" rather than "comment removal", which would be why my eye skipped over it when I downloaded extensions earlier. My thanks again, and best regards.
  • Good to hear.
  • vkaryl - if you don't like Vanilla, no problem. There are plenty of good alternatives out there. And you obviously have been through them all over the past 6 years. Good luck with whatever you choose to go with.
  • Anytime you have something different created, developers do often leave out the most standard of features such as delete, etc for reasons unkown, I think the standards should always be included in any applications you develop why ? well because they are standard, everybody wants and expects them.

example, lets say you get a pencil that did not include an eraser ? DOH!!

I think Mark trys to redefine forum software and how we use it, this can be a good thing, lets us get more from our forum perhaps,

Vanilla feels more like a blog than a forum, the more I use it the more I can see the value of it,
  • The thing is, in this case, the reason isnt unknown. It's openly stated and perfectly valid.
  • valid yes i agree on some of those but as someone also mentioned, you never want to save things like porn, spam, etc and deleting any post just because you want to well this should be a no brainer, sometimes you want, need or have to delete, Internet is becoming a junk yard of old outdated piles of data garbage, [ keep our net clean ]
