The Homepage title and Banner Title have différent fonctions.
Banner Title will be the name showed on the website and homepage Title the one for Index page (displayed over the content) ans on the title tag of main page.
Banner Title is replaces by an image if you setup à logo. Therefore, you will need it because it will be the alternative text if image not loading, and,more important, the one showed on emails, or others important places.5

Yes, I well understood as what you said is already described into the dashboard.
But the problem seems now resolved as I made a fresh install, by the way: It's curious that the archive I downloaded few months ago seems not the same that the one I downloaded yesterday (v2.3).

Maybe not the archive but a file problem while extracted it or sended to FTP, or a different place of download ?
I don't think it was changed on the repo.
But Happy to see that it will be resolved.
