How can we autorise certains users to access to certains categories ?
Do I have to define a new role by category ?
Thanks

    Welcome to the community.

Are you really using a version below 2.3?

If so, you should upgrade as a matter of urgency.

From the Dashboard, in Categories, you can assign permission by roles. You can use existing roles, or create new ones.

  • OK this is the 2.3.
I have to create a role to assign users to a specific catgory.
    I haven't another solution.
    Is'nt it ? Thanks whu606

    Correct.

  • I have a question about this. I am trying to configure vanilla as courses forum and i have a lot of company that it has courses but each student have to see only the registered courses for him.

    I have the follow struct:
    Company 1 (category):

    • Course 1.1 (sub-category): Student 1, Student 2, Student 3
    • Course 1.2 (sub-category): Student 8, Student 10, Student 1
    • Course 1.3 (sub-category): Student 12, Student 15, Student 2

    Company 2 (category):

    • Course 2.1 (sub-category): Student 18, Student 19
    • Course 2.2 (sub-category): Student 21, Student 22, Student 23
    • Course 2.3 (sub-category): Student 31, Student 32, Student 33, Student 18

How can i manage this? I know that if i create a rol for course (categorie). I could do it but i have 1.000 courses and each course has a moderator. This means that i should create 2.000 roles. Is there other form to do this?

    Thanks you.

  • Should a user only be allowed to see courses that he has subscribed or should he be able to ignore other courses by hiding them?

If it is a permission aspect, than the only way is to use roles.
If it is just for how it looks like, than your user can choose to "follow" the categories/courses they are interested in.
