Total newbie needs help installing vanilla 2.5 in word press site

Hello
I an definitely a total newbie.. I downloaded the 2,5 vanilla to my computer, and I read somewhere to open the "readme" file in the folder and follow instructions.. Oh my.. (sigh) I did open the readme file and it asked what program I wanted to look at it in so I guessed and said "word" well it said it couldn't read it ;-(
Not sure how to proceed if I can't even open it.. How is one to install it to their website if I can't even open the readme file?..
Is there anywhere out there where I can follow step by step instructions?
Thanks/

You can open MD files in your web browser, and in the README you will find step by step instructions.

You need to create an empty database on your system.

If you can't do this, you need to speak with your hosts.

We try to be a supportive community, but there is a minimum amount of knowledge you need to have to get going, which it is not reasonable to expect us to provide.

good luck nitehawk. sometimes you may have questions that are vanilla specific and some are general technical questions.

some people who are new to things think something is vanilla specific, so sometimes you can google the web and find answers about php, javascript, nginx, css, and html and get general answers that may prove helpful via the general web as well as vanilla.
