Email Notification on Request Approval

Hello all. I'm hoping to get some help. I've set up a private forum that requires new users to be approved by the admin when signing up. When the requester is approved, I'd like for them to get a confirmation email saying they have been approved (or denied). How can I do that because it's currently not happening. Thank you for your help.

This should actually happen by default. Could you verify that your forum can send emails at all?
