Cannot install Vanilla
MissVix
New
Howdy all,
I'm a noob to Vanilla and a noob to web development so please bear with me. I've hit a snag with installation. I've downloaded the open source software, loaded Wordpress and installed the Vanilla Forum plugin. The settings say you have to set up a forum and there is a button to press to do this. This takes me to their plans which are expensive. I don't know how to do it for free. There is an open source to download but I don't know how to install that. Please help.
Thx

@Miss Vix
Welcome to the community.
Folks on here do try to be helpful, but there is a basic level of understanding that is needed to install Vanilla.
The steps are basically:
upload and extract the Vanilla package to your web host
create an empty database
visit yoursite.com/whereyouputVanilla/Vanilla
and the setup page should load
during the setup process, enter the database details when requested.
That should do it.
If your host uses Apache web server, you may need to change the settings in your .htacess file to point to your Vanilla installation.
