Pull discussions, users, comments from old forum?

edited September 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
I'd like to pull just the users, comments and discussions from the previous vanilla forum which was (Vanilla (0.9.2.2). Is this simply a matter of getting the sql dumps of those tables from the old database? Is there anything I should know before I try this? The new forum is not live yet, so I can mess around before I get there. ANy thoughts?

Comments

  • newer vanillas have a setup script, which has an upgrade feature that should work with 0.9.2.2, if i'm not mistaken
  • Any particular reason you want to skip categories or was that an error?
  • I've got new categories now. Don't really feel the need to even import discussions really.

you could make a backup of current db, run the upgrade script on it, install a new vanilla and then use the tables from the upgraded db instead of the new blank ones.
  • oh but if you've got new categories, you're going to run into problems with referential integrity.
  • How does the old user table compare to the new one?
  • it's pretty close. i don't have an 0.9.2.2 lying around anymore though.

it's probably going to be easier for you just to run the upgrader and make your new categories all over.
