Enabling is a problem when the plugins code needs to be updated to work with the current version
If disabling fails, it usually is caused by the folder being spelled wrong.
I think I have written something on that in the tutorials category. Please try to find that discussion.
Version 2.2 bombs "Somethings Gone Wrong" on new directory fresh install when try logging into Forum...
send me the link about updating plugins if find it...
your folder name must match the name of the plugin
PluginInfo['Testdisable']
the folder must be Testdisable.
matching upper and lowercase.

I was referring to this discussion, but you have found the crucial information already, anyway.
Although most plugins/addons/themes can be enabled even if the folder isn't named correct, they most probably can not be disabled when the folder isn't spelled exactly how it has to be.
realized it's way easier just editing the config file...
(was forced into that option after pressing enable button now sends me for main site index via jsconect)
Then realized v2.3 is broken with mediator image link with something filtering/disabling them...
ugh... nightmare... just wanted getting YAGA functioning...
so my option seems go back for 2.1 or... update/revise bb based forum
will scrap everything and attempt another rebuild today...
anyways... seriously frustrating
Thanks for your response
Is the versions 2.1 , 2.2 , 2.3 , 2.6 that you mention - vanilla forums versions?
If so, you should use the latest 3.1
My reason for experimenting with Vanilla is jsconnect or ProxyConnect SSO...
...for consolidating signins on my server plus extending SocialMedia for having Forums.
2.1 functions flawlessly with Mediator.
Anything 2.2 & above starts giving me problems with posting image links directly for autocoding them...
Something is possibly filtering(stripping tags) the Mediator code...
Let me take deeper look at it when get some extra time.
Something is creating the conflict & it's not extra 3rd party addon plugin.
(did some tests disabling all other plugins besides mediator)
Embeding of media is a core function now.

Thanks for the info.
My Host doesn't meet the PHP requirements for anything above v2.5 in current cpanel config.
hmmm says PHP version: 7.2.7 is active yet on install says not meeting requirements...
Upgraded PHP for version 7.3 and instantly resulted in Fatal errors on most of my other active web projects.
Thus, PHP 5.6 for me & earlier Vanilla versions.
Then you should configure a message for your users : "this forum is using an outdated script with known security issues. Thus all data that you enter cannot be considered private. The good thing about that is, that if you do some research, you can even become admin here, stranger".
Oh, backup often. Maybe once an hour.
Then please upgrade your other projects.
