New User E-mail Alert

edited September 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hi, I (as main admin) am not being alerted when a new user signs up. Am I right in thinking that this should happen automatically as I have provided my e-mail address as admin? TIA, Tim

  • You need to make sure you have the necessary permissions in the roles and settings screen, and that you have selected to recieve the emails in your user preferences screen. If you've got both those are you sure sendmail or smtp is configured on your server?
  • Also, if you are running Vanilla 1.0, there was a bug that was fixed in Vanilla 1.1 related to this.
  • I'm using 1.0.1 so thats OK. It could be that I'm not allowed to use sendmail and AFAIK I'm not allowed to use SMTP for security reasons. Other set ups I have such as CMS's which use PHP MySQL send me admin notices OK. I'll check with the server administrator.
  • Apparently sendmail can only be 'called' via a script. Maybe that's the problem. I guess I could try and override that by entering my ISP SMTP details.
