SMTP & sendmail (was New User e-mail alert)

I've spoken to the Server Admin who says that sendmail on our server can only be called from a script. I've tried using SMTP settings instead, but it would appear that my ISP will not allow me to do that. Any ideas? TIA, Tim

    OK. I've tested sendmail using my CmS (e107) and it definitely sends e-mail. Not sure what's happening with Vanilla.
