How to change URLS for categories and discussions

Hi! Thank you for such a wonderful CMS. Love at first sight))) I have a question about category URLS and discussions. It is possible to change categories/ for example to cat/ ?

There never has been anyone who could explain the benefit of changing those links, by the way. So you might be able to change them, but why do you think about doing so?

I want to shorten the URL as much as possible. because my domain address is long :(

Shortening the URL is of absolute benefit to me, and that in a nutshell is reason enough. I don't need other people's validation to the contrary. Otherwise I'd be out of here and off to WordPress land.
