Adding to Category list

What file do I use if I want to alter the Category list? I want to pull some more info - like how discusware does it: http://support.discusware.com/cgi-bin/forum/discus.cgi I don't need the subcategories yet - though I may implement that later. It would be nice to put - Posts, Pages, Last Post, Last Poster. I've migrated from discuware and my users are missing the old look and feel - so I've been trying recreate it a bit.
