What Happened to the Ability to Set Font Color in a Post?

edited October 2020 in Vanilla 3.x Help

I've searched through the forum best I can and either I'm the only one having this issue or I'm the only one bothered by it.

I used to have the ability to format text including setting foreground and background color.

I seem to have lost that ability somewhere in V3 (I'm running 3.3).

HTML doesn't work, nor does BB Code. And there is no option for color in the pop-up when I highlight text.

Am I missing something?

Rich Editor vs what Post Format you used before perhaps

  • It would be nice if Rich Editor supported color and background-color.

But thanks for pointing me to the doc @Kaspar.

Let me give you a scenario:

You are coordinating something with other members and you post a date and time. Then that date and time changes.

Yes, you post the change as a reply, but that can get lost in the thread. So you also change the original post because you can't leave the wrong date and time just hanging there.

It would be useful, when you make that change, to have a nice BIG BOLD RED font to draw attention to that change.

I try to not depend too much on color as a cue in my UIs. Early in my career I had a friend/co-worker who was completely colorblind and was embarrassed about it (I was the only person who knew). We were in a meeting and handed a list, each with different sections yellow highlighted. We were instructed to each review the programs that were highlighted on our paper.

My friend spoke up and said there was no highlight on his copy. Everyone looked at him like he was nuts but I knew he couldn't see it. I quietly showed him with a pen "from here to here". I've been sensitive to that since then.

None the less, that doesn't mean I completely abandon color. It can really make a UI pop (or, yes, when taken to an extreme, make it look like angry fruit salad). I just don't use it as my ONLY cue.

All things considered, I'd rather have a color option than not have one ... <steps off soapbox>.

Thanks as always. Hope you're staying safe and well.

  • I'm totally with you! I'm not part of any team which has anything to decide what is happening behind the Vanilla scenes. I was just reporting what I had remembered (wrongish): https://open.vanillaforums.com/discussion/comment/255288/#Comment_255288
