Most of the actual needed addons are provided with Vanilla and can be enabled with a signle click in the dashboard.
Installation is still quite easy, as using a php single script installer will do the same as the already provided installer. You still need to know basics of PHP and MySQL for every script including Wordpress for exemple.
You actually have 4 themes built into Vanilla (Keystone, Baseline, Bitter Sweet, and Embed Friendly. And they are light.
Did you ever use Vanilla before, like at least one installation?
Obviously when I say "You still need to know basics of PHP and MySQL for every script including Wordpress for exemple" I intent to say that:
Many web installer include Vanilla, in wich case you don't need to deal with the installer and database at all.
But assuming you're running on shared hosting, because people we currently talk about would not manage a webserver, one day PHP will need an update. And you still might (not necesseraly) need some PHP basics. But anyway... And if you don't like provided themes, you still have working themes on the addons repo.
And most functions can be replaced in Vanilla with plugins. Even private messages are running on a seperate app in core called "Conversations". Almost everything runs on plugins because that's the heart of Vanilla: core as simple as possible, but extendable in every way with addons. The core is Vanilla.
There is no problem coming from the software itself, except not being yet
updatedpackaged. But this might change soon. But one strange thing. You talked about WYSIWYG being something forum users will not like but complain about Vanilla installation being difficult, while it's probably one of the esiest forum software to install and configure.
I would welcome if you stop going off topic with dreaming about features.
This discussion was about what we could do to improve Vanilla OS. If one of you will implement one of the features your are taking about, all is good. Otherwise you are off topic
That's what I tried to discuss.
