I have followed the spinx search installation documentation but it still doesn't work. can anyone help me?

On your server, find the file /etc/sphinxsearch/sphinx.conf and copy its entire contents into the box. The install script will do its thing and it should give you a new config that you then need to copy back into /etc/sphinxsearch/sphinx.conf
OK, it won't work then. I tried running Sphinx on a shared host only to read the install notes and also be told by the web host that it needed to be run in its own environment.

No, sphinx.conf. It's the configuration file for the search daemon you hopefully installed on your server already.
Romy, is your website on a shared host or do have your own VPS?
