Embedding killed my traffic - is there a fix?

Question is in the title. I'm using the latest Vanilla 3.3.
It used to be a stand alone, but my developer recently embedded the forum in my Wordpress site.
Unfortunately, that changed all the links (added a # in the link) so all the years of Google search rankings disappeared. I tried redirecting but that doesn't help.
Is there any solution other than dis-embedding the forum and returning it to a stand alone folder?
thanks

How did you redirect? A correct 301 Moved Permanently redirect should preserve rankings.
Generally, it is better not to embed, if you have other options (like making the header of your blog and forum match).
My themes: pure | minusbaseline - My plugins: CSSedit | HTMLedit | InfiniteScroll | BirthdayModule | [all] - PM me about customizations

I tried the 301 redirect but didn't work.
I do prefer the non-embed version because it also seems to load faster. My IT guy wanted to go the embed route. 3 months of 50% less traffic convinced me to switch it back.
