Usability and examples of open source implementations

I'm the business guy looking for some feedback on the difficulty of technical implementation.

I love the UI/UX of Vanilla but wonder whether the open source version is complex for our (skilled) tech team to implement, including SSO from our site (https://go.starweaver.com) to a community forum for our students.

Any feedback on these issues would be very helpful!! Many thanks in advance:

  1. Approximate hours and complexity/difficulty to implement for functionality
  2. Approximate hours and complexity/difficulty to implement SSO
  3. Approximate hours and complexity/difficulty to create customizations that would make it a "cool" community, even as straightforward as this one: https://open.vanillaforums.com/
  4. Ease of customization on UI/UX, and support, for our administrators

FYI we use Zoho for our support and it's community function is very skeletal (https://support.starweaver.com/), so we are looking for a better solution.
