Two quick questions

We have upgraded from 2.3.1 to 2021.009. I've got two quick questions:

  1. We have a problem with the characters D: being replaced with a smiley. Not sure where to amend this? Setting the emoji set to none fixes it but disables the feature completely. Have tried grep on the source but not found it yet!
  2. A moderator has complained that the applicant list is less usable than before, because the "Reason" is shown in full and is often full of spam. I found a crude hack to limit the number of characters by editing applicants.php but what is the proper way to customize this dashboard view?

    1. What editor are you using?
    2. I would suggest a CSS "fix". If you do not already have a custom theme, the CSSEdit plugin might be the best option

    I have a feeling some of the plugins may be out of date and will check this.
