Site Chat with Jabber

edited May 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Not sure if this is a necessity yet, but I'm looking for better ways to communicate with my clientele through Vanilla. So, if they want to talk to someone, but don't have an instant message-type program, is there something out there that I could install on my server, and eventually create a extension for in vanilla, that would allow them to use their vanilla login to open up an ajax-like window, which they can have a one on one conversation with either myself or the other people on staff?

And, that would just hook up to my jabber account, which in this case I am using my gmail account through the gaim IM client.

Does that make sense? I know there are chats available that would be similar, but I want it to be a one on one conversation with that client, with the ability of bringing in another staff member if necessary, using my gaim, and the client to just use a chat-style web-based window. And also, have the ability to have multiple sessions open at once, say for instance, if we have 3 clients on at the same time, and they all want to chat with a staff member. I can have 3 IM windows open, but each individual client only sees their specific conversation.

Anyone know of anything like this?

It doesn't do all of the above but http://campfirenow.com/ is a nice online chat app which supports multiple users and guests in different chat "rooms"
  • excellent job 3stripe

i will have a better look-and-listen once i get headphones for the 5 minute video tour
  • I've managed to install Flash Chat (the script cost $5 for life) and integrated it with vanilla database yet there's no auto login but it works like a charm and you can have it installed as a simple live suport agent so you can communicate with your clientele or even allow guest sign in.

Check it out at Vent Swap where I have it semi-integrated with vanilla, you'll need to create an account.
