Upgrade direct from Vanilla 2.5.1 to v3

After a major crash about five years ago that was a nightmare to recover, I've been running my forum on a very old version. How difficult would it be to upgrade to the latest version from 2.5.1?
It has now become an issue again as the required PHP version is no longer supported by my host.
Also is there anyone out there who would be prepared to assist for a fair remuneration?
