What's the best (free?) simple animated GIF software please?

As per the title really, I just need something very simple that'll create a gif of a few images that'll do a very brief and subtle fade between each one, cheers. Ideally I need something that'll let me select some photos (that I'd already cropped to the right size) and then it'll automatically put the fade in there for me, like I said, a very brief subtle fade is all I'm after, and maybe four or five photos. I've alread had a dabble at doing it with GIMP and Fireworks but it's all a little too complicated for me really, I'm after something dead simple. Cheers

  • Its been years... back then it was GIF Animation Studio Plus... I thought the program was crap; wizard-based process and worst nag screens of any shareware I have seen.

Might be easier done as a GDK script.
  • Why not use Microsoft GIF Animator? It's very old software, but I find it still works great for me.
