Is there any good shopping cart software?

edited March 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
freecsscart.com will hopefully come through. In the meantime is there ANYTHING out there now, that's XHTML/CSS with just a basic feature set that works well? I don't care if it cost money either.

  • I've used CubeCart with success.
It's free to use, or you can buy a license to remove the powered by link.

OS Commerce has a good following, but theming it is a bit much.

CC was very easy to theme, and is theme/template based for the visual.

It also validates, is usable with most major gateways, supports electronic downloads, and some other nice to have features. Their community is good, and they have a lot of mods available. Some mods are paid, so be careful. If you're comfy with PHP, then you could write your own vice paying for a mod.

The main site is cubecart.com, and their mods are are .org.
  • I started playing around with ZenCart it's open-source which I always appreciate. http://www.zen-cart.com/ There's always Shopify for quick turn around. http://shopify.com/ Other than that, they are feature bloated.
  • TexTex

Does anybody has another hint? I would appreciate some Ajax driven shop. Shopify is nice, but I would prefer no fees or one time fees instead of constant ones.

Edit: Another simple script is: webforcecart.com

Wordpress has a decent shopping cart plugin with a splash of Ajax - http://www.instinct.co.nz/e-commerce/ - which seems to be shaping up nicely.
  • Thanks James. Maybe that's what I was looking for!
  • This is an old thread but as it has shown up under "popular" I thought I should update it.

For a cleanly written, current cart checkout Prestashop:

    http://www.prestashop.com

Of all of the FOSS carts I have looked at it is by far the cleanest codebase. It is also as of February 2011 still actively developed.

Stay far away from legacy codebases like ZenCart, osCommerce, cubecart, etc. as they are only going to get harder to maintain and extend as time goes on.

    Cheers
  • Depending on your needs, take a look at e-junkie or foxycart. They are both similar in function but vary in options. E-junkie is very easy to implement in most cases and the script call for it could be embedded into the head of your Vanilla install.

Using e-junkie (or focycart), you could actually sell items from inside forum posts using either an add to cart button or buy now button.

When Pages gets released and updated for Vanilla, you would be able to create an entire store inside your Vanilla site using either one of those.
