Friendly URLs installation help

edited January 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
So i've been running vanilla for a while now, and I haven't got around to installing friendly urls. I went through the steps:

1. Open up conf/settings.php and add this:

$Configuration['URL_BUILDING_METHOD'] = 'mod_rewrite';

2. Copy the .htaccess file in this add-on to the root folder of your Vanilla
installation.

That's it. Browse to your Vanilla installation and enjoy those faux-folder urls.

and when I browse to the forum I get a 500 Internal server error. My host has mod_rewrite support so I don't know what's going on. Can anyone help?

  • Comment the line with "Options +FollowSymLinks -Multiviews", it might not be allowed by your host
  • Ah thanks, that gets rid of the 500 error, but now I'm getting a 404 error when I click on the threads... only things that are showing up are the top menu items.
  • Bumping this because I'd really like to get some input on fixing this.
  • im not see any htaccess file can u put the code whats in the htaccess here? please
  • please?
  • .htaccess comes with the default installation of vanilla. You just need to add the line to the /conf/settings.php file.
