Friendly URLs installation help

edited January 2007 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
So i've been running vanilla for a while now, and I haven't got around to installing friendly urls. I went through the steps:

1. Open up conf/settings.php and add this:

$Configuration['URL_BUILDING_METHOD'] = 'mod_rewrite';

2. Copy the .htaccess file in this add-on to the root folder of your Vanilla

That's it. Browse to your Vanilla installation and enjoy those faux-folder urls.

and when I browse to the forum I get a 500 Internal server error. My host has mod_rewrite support so I don't know what's going on. Can anyone help?

    Comment the line with "Options +FollowSymLinks -Multiviews", it might not be allowed by your host

    Ah thanks, that gets rid of the 500 error, but now I'm getting a 404 error when I click on the threads... only things that are showing up are the top menu items.

    .htaccess comes with the default installation of vanilla. You just need to add the line to the /conf/settings.php file.
