IPB, PhpBB, VBulletin, SMF, PunBB theme on Vanilla?

edited December 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
I love the design of Vanilla. But, I wonder if it would be easy to make a Vanilla theme or style that looked more like a traditional forum such as IPB, PhpBB, VBulletin, SMF or PunBB. This could be something others can change in their forum preferences. Maybe even a port on the default theme on those forums. How easy is it to do this? Is the theme system so flexible?

  • Unfortunately themes arent possible on a per-user basis as they can change the forum so much as to restrict certain functions/etc from working and cause conflicts with extensions. Jazzman made a tabled theme which does look more like a traditional forum, and I believe it was even designed so that punBB stylesheets would work with it. Then ofcourse styles are changeable on a per user basis assuming you have the custom styles extension installed. Hope that helps.
  • Okey. How to use the default PunBB theme on the Tabled theme?
  • That I'm not sure. I'm guessing you can get stylesheets for punBB so just upload them to the styles directory of the tabled theme and select it in the themes/styles settings page?
  • Nope I tried that. Didn't work.
  • Hmm. Well I've never tried it myself but I'm sure that was a major idea behind the design of the tabled theme. I guess jazzman or someone who uses it would be the one to ask. He's a bit scarce these days though. Maybe try dropping him an email?

My two styles are written to appear more like *bb boards, you may want to check them out:
    Tonka
    Tyco
