Categories help

Hey all, I am new to Vanilla and I must say that I enjoy it very much! Great work!! I would like to know if it is possible for me to default Vanilla to the categories tab when the forum is accessed? OR, if I can somehow show the categories list on the sidebar all the time? I am currently using Vanilla 1.01 with the VanillaSky theme installed. Thanks for any help you can provide!
